Hotel Management: one in 4 employees doesn’t know what to make in case of emergency.

Gruppo La Meridiana is actively working in the hotel sector for more than ten years, by providing outsourcing services based on efficiency and safety. Today, we want address precisely the subject of safety, considering first the point of views of employees.

Experts have conducted a study that shows worrying data: more than 30 per cent of employees in the hotel sector finds not structures are safe or efficiently equipped in case of emergency. Furthermore, 1 in 4 employees could not navigate if accidents happen inside the hotel.

Each hotel’s operator must think that protection of the staff means not only comply with the rules on safety. A “winning” entrepreneur absolutely must make sure staff knows safety regulations and how to apply them, through an in-depth training about the behaviour to adopt in the case of an accident.

What are the subjects of a security training course?

Issues addressed in a security training course are a lot, but all equally important. First of all, it is necessary to start from information, explaining to the staff the systemic risks of accidents at work. Once this point has been established, it is important to speak about specific risks, including theory and practice and by carrying out some serious emergency drills. Practical training cannot be left out. It is well know that general panic in major emergencies may not to enable people to action, if they have ever tried all knowledge acquired. For this purpose, training must include first aid lessons, because first aid is often crucial to save the situation in case of emergency. The security training course main elements can be summarised as follows:

Information and training of the systemic risks

Information and training of the specific risks

         First aid

Guide to behaviour in case of fire

Explanatory words of the occupational safety representatives

In Italy, safety at work is regulated by Legislative Decree No 81 of 9 April 2008, and by subsequent amendments contained in Legislative Decree No 106 of 3 August 2009. Lastly, fire-fighting training courses and first aid shall be governed respectively by Ministerial Decision of 10 March 1998 and by Ministerial Decision No 388. The good stuff of these regulations are:

  1. a)      The employer shall have a duty to ensure the safety and health of workers in every aspect related to the work.
  2. b)      Mandatory appointment of fire-fighting service representatives (minimum two per each work shift period).
  3. c)       Mandatory appointment of first aid representatives.

It is good to know that the persons nominated are obliged to participate in security training courses.

Particularly as regards training, Personnel Management is a very complex business activity. For this reason, we stress the importance to outsource Human Resources Management. Outsourcing enables tourism entrepreneurs to focus other business objectives, but also to have caught a highly qualified staff.

The experience of the Cooperative Gruppo La Meridiana shall ensure full support to companies, thanks in particular to professionals able in the context of staff training and management. Safety may certainly refer to a strategy for attracting clients and consumers become more and more conscious about self-preservation.
